Hey - I went and checked out those hot springs. Looks pretty nice! It's getting chilly out too, so it's a good time to visit. It's not mixed bathing, so miss Milla won't have to worry... not that she seemed shy at all.
I thought I would let you know that Peony makes a habit of naming his pets after people he knows and has generally taken a liking to. Truly, you should feel honored! [ Alvin, can you feel the chipper sarcasm dripping off of that last remark? ]
[when Alvin saw this message, he kind of. dreaded hearing it. he even considered, you know, just pretending he never got it. but no, he listens to it, anyway, and...is quite surprised.
seriously?
that's what he was asking???
he's just. going to stare at it before shaking his head and calling Flynn back.]
Flynn, you threw the Dreamberry against a wall. I don't think you can count that as just "running off" in the middle of a conversation.
[sure, Alvin. just fan the flames.]
But don't worry about it. It wasn't really that important.
It broke in half afterwards. [He says that like...it's not a big deal. A sigh.] I had to stay at the Somarium Defense Force headquarters in case something came up. [Or else Kid would have killed him.]
Yeah, you think? [There's a bit of sarcasm in there.]
If you say so. [He shrugs.]
I just wanted to make sure, that's all. You know how things are now.
[Tali thought losing Shepard was hard. But finding herself completely alone in the hangar, without anyone left from home....She hated being alone. Quarians were never alone, that was how they lived. So many people in such small spaces, that was normal. Anything but this. So to combat this, she did the next best thing and reached out to the closest friend she had left.]
Kasumi's gone.
[Her text is simple and to the point, mostly because she can't bring herself to type anymore just yet.]
[Jude calls twice before leaving a message on Alvin's voicemail. The message itself is brief, but there's an edge to his voice that betrays that something very serious is happening.]
Alvin, when you get this, come to the hospital right away.
[when Alvin got the message, he knew immediately what it was about. or rather, who it was about and what happened to her. and there was a moment where he just sat there and stared at the phone. it's not like he's never had experienced death. on the contrary, he's arguably had too much and too recently. but he just stares at the Dreamberry for a moment before he finally makes his way to the hospital.
there's nothing rushed about his movements. nothing frantic. no sign of despair, anger, bewilderment. it's as if he had accepted this would happen a while ago—and perhaps he had. despite all the hoping, he had known that Naomi would die. there was still that whole, "Will she actually stay dead?" thing about Somarium, but his actions and attitude would be no different than if this were a normal dying process. but there was also something hollow to it. something he would never really be able to place.
this is how he appears when he finds Jude.]
I got your message.
[and from his tone and appearance, it's clear he knows.]
[Jude has experienced death before, but the death of someone relatively close.... well, the last time that happened, he hadn't taken it very well. This wasn't quite the same situation, but he's still having to fight the urge to just shut himself away for a while. He has responsibilities he has to attend to, as much as he feels like he failed them today.]
Thanks for coming.
[He motions for Alvin to follow him and starts to walk, not in the direction of Naomi's room., but towards the basement. If Alvin wasn't sure of what happened before, he will be now.] It's about Naomi.
[ You know, waking up while being stored in the morgue is not the most pleasant of experiences. It's cold, dark, and she smells of formaldehyde. The worst part is that she can't get out. After an initial moment of panic, she calms herself, realizing that a technician must have stored her lifeless body away. Okay, that's... okay. She can deal with this. Somehow.
Good thing her dreamberry appeared beside her. He'll receive the following breathy, conflicted, and cynical message. ]
Al, this is... Naomi.
[ She's. Alive. She doesn't know how to feel about that still. ]
If you could get me out of here, I'd appreciate it. [ You know, before she runs out of air and dies again, thanks. ]
[Naomi. this is not creepy at all. it's not every day he gets a call from someone who was dead and is currently residing in the morgue. but it does take him a moment to actually process that this is happening and for another moment he thought he was hearing things or this is some trick.
he doesn't call back. in fact, he's already at the hospital because he was getting his arm checked. it had been fractured back in Noctaerium. so she might be surprised if after a minute or so she hears the door rattle a bit and is slid out (although he had actually hesitated before opening).
and looking down at her is Alvin with a slightly arched brow.]
Don't you think calling Jude would have been the better option for this?
[but despite the slight dry, teasing tone, there is a look of... ...relief? concern? uncertainty? and the fact that she did call him instead of Jude did not go by unnoticed. or maybe she did and she just called him, too, just in case.]
[ You know they store bodies naked. Which is one reason she did not call Jude. Because it's one thing while dead, being nude, and having a doctor examine a body, but it's different when said person is alive. So she's going to cover her chest up while she squints her eyes in annoyance at the cold fluorescent lighting and speaks in a disgruntled tone, ]
Just give me your coat.
[ And then she notices that his arm is fractured. Right, so taking off is coat might not be an easy thing. A little more softly, ] ...Or. There are some clean towels in the labeled cabinet in the right corner.
[HE WAS IN THE SHOWER. OR SOMETHING. but he's very quick to call back. in fact it was so fast that it's clear he had been somewhere when he heard it and had rushed back to answer. so his voice is just a tad breathless when he answers, despite trying to sound casual.]
Was starting to wonder if you'd ever call me.
[no it's not like he was staring at his Dreamberry every day forever and ever like a longing puppy or anything NO.]
